Get or renew a UK adult passport
For British nationals aged 16 or over: apply online or with a paper form through HM Passport Office.
Cost: £102 online or £115.50 with a paper form (in the UK, reference)
What you need
- Be a British national aged 16 or over (or turning 16 within 3 weeks)
- A new digital photo (online) or 2 identical printed photos (paper form)
- First passport: original birth certificate and, if born in the UK on or after 1 January 1983, evidence of a parent's UK status
- Renewal: your old passport

- Check current processing times on GOV.UK before you apply
- Get a new photo taken within the last month
- Apply online (or fill in a paper form) and pay the fee
- Send any documents requested and keep your application reference number
- Receive your passport by courier or Royal Mail

Tips to get it right the first time
- Do not book travel until you have the new passport: it will have a new number.
- You must apply as a first-time applicant if your last UK passport was issued before 1 January 1994.
